ANNA joins celebrated Global Underground series with GU46: Lisbon!

Following on from last year’s definitive GU:45 Brooklyn by Danny Tenaglia, Global Underground brings you GU46: Lisbon by Brazilian supremo ANNA, available June 2024.

Now 20+ years into her highly celebrated and revered career, Anna Miranda AKA ANNA ascended to stardom in a unique and special way. At age 14, young Anna would listen to the sets played by local DJs in her father’s nightclub Six, on the outskirts of São Paulo. She realised that the same tracks appeared again and again each week. She convinced her father she could do better….and she did.

For many years now, ANNA has called Lisbon her home. The city’s music and passion runs deep through her veins. For Lisboetas, ANNA’s trademark sound encapsulates the effortless chic and vibrant nightlife of one of the coolest cities in Europe. So, who better to bring you the Lisbon edition of the seminal GU series than ANNA?

ANNA‘s dynamic sound encompasses multiple styles and genres – from ambient through house to techno. Connectivity and spirituality is key in her music as is her incredible Lisbon studio set-up, as can be heard on her intense and exotic single Kalimba Dreams, released on Global Underground on 5th April.

Kalimba Dreams is one of several new and exclusive tracks on GU46: Lisbon along with ANNA’s collab with Rebūke, the magnificent Ignite. Wehbba’s superb track Symmetry and Paul Roux‘s beautiful Baby, Baby were written especially for ANNA for GU46: Lisbon, as wereother incredible tracks by Victor Ruiz, Tao Andra, and Binaryh.

Other artists featured across ANNA GU46: Lisbon include BICEP, Bonobo & Jacques Greene, TSHA, Mind Against, Daniel Avery & Alessandro Cortini, Yotto and Agents Of Time.

ANNA explains: “I chose music that makes me feel the way that Lisbon makes me feel, and selected the full spectrum of my music taste, including ambient, house and techno. So, there’s this sense of aliveness, of uplifting energy that reflects the diversity of the city…Few places make me feel as stimulated, inspired and fulfilled as Lisbon. It’s a city where I feel totally at home and at peace.

CD1 represents the soft, groovy, mellow, ambient side. CD2 explores the more energetic, club music I’m known for. On GU46: Lisbon, I’ve also included music that I don’t usually play at my shows; music that has a huge impact on uplifting my mood and raising my frequency.

GU Founder Andy Horsfield tells us more: “We have been huge fans of ANNA’s music and dynamic DJ sets for many years, so we are so excited that she has joined the GU family with GU46 Lisbon as the perfect setting for the next edition of the city series.”

Global Underground pride themselves on their commitment to physical formats of the very highest quality, essential to your collection. As well as digital/streaming versions, ANNA GU46: Lisbon is available onDeluxe CD format, 3 x 12” Heavyweight Coloured Vinyl plus special Limited Edition Collector’s edition. Tujamo And Gamuel Sori Unveil Collaborative Tech House Anthem ‘Sometimes’!

German DJ Tujamo, a pioneer in the electronic dance music scene with 3x Platinum and 14x Gold awards, has teamed up with the upcoming Italian DJ/producer Gamuel Sori to unleash their latest collaborative single, ‘Sometimes.’

The genesis of this collaboration can be traced back to an unexpected encounter. Gamuel Sori, inspired by Tujamo’s music, embarked on a creative endeavor—a remix of Tujamo’s hit track “Drop That Low.” Sharing a snippet of his remix on his social media, Sori’s rendition garnered unexpected attention. Encouraged by the overwhelming response, Sori released the full remix on SoundCloud, where it also gained traction.

Little did Sori know that his remix would catch the ear of Tujamo himself. Impressed by Sori’s innovative take on his track, Tujamo reached out to the Italian producer, sparking a conversation that would ultimately lead to their collaboration on ‘Sometimes.’ Speaking about the collaboration, Tujamo expressed his admiration for Sori’s unique groovy sound, which sparked his interest in working together.

With haunting vocal lines asking, “Would you stay, would you go? You’re still on my mind,” ‘Sometimes’ captures the essence of nostalgia and the bittersweet emotions associated with lost connections. This poignant lyricism, coupled with the driving beat, creates an immersive sonic experience that resonates with listeners on a deep and emotional level.

The magic of ‘Sometimes’ lies not only in its origin story but also in its evolution. Initially conceived with a slow guitar riff reminiscent of a sun-kissed summer melody, the track underwent a metamorphosis as Tujamo and Sori explored new sonic territories. Gradually increasing the tempo, they infused the track with an infectious energy, transforming it into a tech-house club anthem that pulses with vitality and excitement. What sets ‘Sometimes’ apart is its distinctive blend of elements—a fusion of a more urban-style vocal, unlike the typical dance vocal, with the pulsating rhythms of tech house.

‘Sometimes’ is more than just a collaboration; it’s a testament to the power of music to forge connections and transcend boundaries. With its infectious rhythm, introspective lyrics, and innovative sound, the track promises to captivate audiences worldwide and leave an indelible mark on the electronic music landscape.

‘Sometimes’ is now available on all streaming platforms. Listen here.

MaWayy and Right Said Fred revamp iconic pop tune ‘I’m Too Sexy’ !

In an ingenious blast from the past, Emmy Award winning, Iranian-US duo MaWayy has teamed up with UK pop phenomenon Right Said Fred for a creative revamp of iconic 90’s tune “I’m Too Sexy.” Recorded with fresh vocals from the original idols, the song keeps its smooth, sensual voice, in this version complemented by a danceable and energetic bouncy beat, effectively creating a whole new gem, ready to overwhelm the summer dance crowds all over again. Out now on Spinnin’ Records.

“I’m Too Sexy” still counts as one of the early 90’s biggest hits. Marking the breakthrough of UK duo Right Said Fred (who continued to dominate the charts throughout the decade), the song reached #1 in several countries, including the US and Australia, while also residing at #2 in the UK Singles Chart for six weeks in a row, turning into a certified global summer hit in 1991.

Fast forward to our decade, when Iranian-US dance act MaWayy meet Right Said Fred through one of their mutual agents. The duo, comprised of Emmy Award winning television composer/producers Brian Wayy and Masoud Fuladi, had already been making waves with several club tunes, including 2017 debut “Wrong” (counting over 1,6 million views on YouTube as we speak) and 2020’s “Calling Her My Name,” and was eager to explore how to work together with the iconic UK pop act.

As it happened, both teams were interested in re-inventing “I’m Too Sexy,” with MaWayy inspired to create a fresh groove around the song, while Right Said Fred were feeling up to re-visiting their famous hit. The result turned out phenomenal, as the guys delivered a mint performance, featuring their characteristic smooth vocal style in a wonderfully updated guise, perfectly backed by MaWayy’s inventive production sound.

In this new version, “I’m Too Sexy” builds on Right Said Fred’s sensual vocals, reminiscing the vibe of the ’91 original, while MaWayy drenches the guys in subtle yet captivating sound effects, taking their classic lines on fashion lifestyle and doing ‘my little turn on the catwalk’ straight into a lustrous 2024 mood.

MaWayy then adds a sturdy beat and some tantalizing melodics to twist the song in a whole new direction. As the rhythm and melodies evolve, the duo perfectly showcases its studio expertise, letting the tune drop into a highly effective chorus, emphasized by deep bass chords to accompany the vocals.

Ultimately, we all win. Fans from back in the day will embrace the return of Right Said Fred, sounding  joyful and better than ever before, while today’s crowd will love this classic taken to a next, contemporary level, translating its upbeat vibe into a strong club and festival favorite.   Springtime is here, and “I’m Too Sexy” is all over it, ready to soundtrack the season in an electronically charged, fun driven version – making it an inevitable tune all over again.

COSMIC GATE & CHRISTIAN BURNS JUST RELEASED ‘BRAVE’!

Bathed in the moodsome blue light of the titan Ahoy arena, in the opening minutes of their ASOT 2024 set, Cosmic Gate premiered their new single. The response ‘Brave’ received from the tens of thousands gathered in Rotterdam was greater than even the duo dared hope.

‘Brave’ represents the first material, post ‘MOSAIIK – Chapters One & Two’ – the twin albums that definitively reset Cosmic Gate’s sonic to something “deeper, more progressive and song-led”. The music that followed was only going to advance that ethic further. The single sees Cosmic Gate in a first-time collaboration with multi-award winning singer/songwriter Christian Burns, but as the three acknowledge, ‘Brave’s creation was not without its own challenges.

Working on something together has been on the cards for quite some time”, says Christian. “It was never about doing a track … but doing the right one though.” “The moment we heard Christian’s ‘Brave’ demo, we knew we’d found the one”, comments Bossi. “The song has a unique atmosphere and, production-wise, I think we knew what we were going to do with it before we’d finished our first listen!” adds Nic.

Solemn and haunting in places, mesmerizing in others, ‘Brave’s powerful draw-you-in nature has a once heard/never forgotten quality. Carried by Christian Burn’s lingering, ethereal delivery, its words convey an equally compelling message. It meditates on the courage needed to dig deep and find enough heart to fight the good fight – whatever form it might take. Cosmic Gate tint ‘Brave’s production with chunky, tribal drums, throbbing bass, haunting horns, lament-laced piano and no end of FX texture. For those in need of a song of salvation, fear not – ‘Brave’s here for you! Find it through all good sales and streaming channels [blackhole.lnk.to/brave] from today, and check Cosmic Gate’s drop it at ASOT 2024 here.
