A few days ago, 2x Grammy nominated producer, DJ and entrepreneur Steve Aoki shut down a New York City block to host a runway show and concert, hosted by AOL Build Series, where hundreds of fans were treated to an exclusive first listen to his upcoming album, Kolony, and a preview of“Paradise Found” his sixth collection for DIM MAK, a street influenced menswear brand. Steve Aoki was joined on stage by a live marching band and special guest performers Bok Nero, Sonny Digital, Ayo & Teo, Mase, and more. The event ended with Aoki’s infamous crowd caking!
KOLONY is an amalgamation of party-cranking tracks that stretch across the boundaries between EDM and rap music, landing on something in between and adding supplemental flavor. The project, due for release July 21 via Dim Mak Records / Ultra Records, marks Aoki’s first full turn into rap music, which he describes as “bridging the gap” between genres and is stacked with hard-hitting rhymes from some of the most prominent lyricists today, including Lil Uzi Vert, Lil Yachty, Migos, 2 Chainz, Gucci Mane, ILOVEMAKONNEN, T Pain, and more.
The mainstream-accessible Dim Mak collection featured on the runway, fuses traditional American fashion with Japanese street wear-inspired hoodies and denim. Aoki worked with popular graffiti artist David Choe on select pieces of this collection that brings together art, music and fashion.
