We should probably stop calling Todd Helder’s sound ‘futuristic’ by this stage. No matter how many visions of sci-fi utopias and dystopias his cinematic sound conjures up, the fact is that it’s very much the sound of now. His cutting edge production continues to amaze on his latest bombastic track, Deeper.
Blending his distinctive 8-bit synth template beautifully to a bone-crushing, dubstep flavoured beat, Deeper is another winner from the hands of this young producer. A filtered intro sets a hazy tone before the cool vocoder vocals glitch and bend up and down in trippy fashion.
In slams the thick waves of sub bass, buzzing electro leads and chiptune sounds on the drop, fusing together to create something that is deeply electronic yet maintains a sense of soul and emotion. A mellow breakdown lays on distant chords and light breakbeat rhythms, lifting the track higher and increasing the tension. One final pummeling from the gnarly beat ensures that complete devastation is carried out.
