Latest data shows that Electronic acts represent 38.8% of all 2022 festival bookings. Timmy Trumpet, Martin Garrix and Alan Walker are among the busiest artists this season.

Festivals are making a comeback, and music data analytics platform Viberate has published an extensive analysis of the 2022 season, covering 500 festivals and the more than 9,000 performing artists on their lineups. Here are some of the key findings.

Almost a third of all analyzed festivals is Electronic, with Tomorrowland as the top Electronic festival. The most Electronic festivals (19) take place in the US, followed by the Netherlands (11) and France (10). Joining Tomorrowland in the top 5 are Electric Daisy Carnaval Las Vegas and Ultra Miami, followed by Lollapalooza Brasil and the Romanian Untold

Electronic acts are the most booked, and Dutch artists are the most sought-after. The majority of all 2022 festival bookings were Electronic artists (38.8%), followed by Rock (15.9%), Pop (12.7%) and Hip Hop artists (12.6%).

Timmy Trumpet is the most booked Electronic artist, playing 24 of the analyzed festivals. Following closely behind are Martin Garrix and Vini Vici (both 22 festivals), Alan Walker (21), 100 gecs (18), Steve Aoki and John Summit (both 17), DJ Snake, Alesso, Amelie Lens and Joel Corry (all 16).

Europeans make up over 70% of all Electronic bookings, while the booked Rock artists mostly come from the USA (33.8%). The most-booked artist overall is Megan Thee Stallion. Viberate also highlighted the artists to watch, as their popularity stats have been steadily growing. HAAi, TSHA and Nu Genea are the Electronic up-and-comers who might make interesting additions to future lineups.

What can festival organizers and booking agents learn from insights such as these? Viberate’s co-founder Vasja Veber offers an answer: “Simply put, data is changing the way organizers are selecting their lineups. In our survey, 68% of organizers said they’re screening artists’ Spotify listeners, Instagram followers and similar stats. Finding artists with a strong local fanbase is essential for selling tickets. So I’d recommend Viberate’s professional music analytics to everyone who wants to fine-tune their booking and promotional strategies and get back to the pre-pandemic status as soon as possible.”
