It has been a busy spring for Bristol-based producer and DJ Axel Boy. The release of his fantastic, feel-good single Find The Time was quickly followed by his amazing collab with Ruth Royall on Dancer (supported by the likes of Charlie Tee and Jack Saunders on BBC Radio 1, and Mollie Collins on Kiss).

Now, Axel Boy is back with another fantastic fresh cut for the spring, this time with D&Bs rising star Aleya Mae, the sublime singer/songwriter, who has amassed nearly six million plays on Spotify to her name so far, working with artists such as Aktiv and Tsuki. Low High, released via NewState Music on 28th April, is a straight-up vocal D&B banger, designed to get you and your crew onto the dancefloor, with Axel Boy and Aleya Mae proving to be a musical match made in bass heaven.

Low High kicks off with a warm, rolling sub bass and a simple beat for the first couple of bars, before the track’s full glory is unloaded straight into your eardrums. Aleya Mae’s catchy vocal hits you at the same time as Axel Boy’s beats, sampled impeccably from old school breaks. Low high / Touch me that way / Love that what we’re doing / And I love the way were moving…

It’s here that the old is smashed with the new, carving out evolving Reese basses and hard-hitting foghorns, resulting in a classic, yet contemporary D&B masterclass. Axel Boy on Low High: I’ve been following Aleya’s journey for a while. We we were finally linked up through our ties with our publisher, Sentric. They sent me over her top-line for Low High and I instantly connected with it.I decided to make something that really compliments her vocal. Inspired by the current wave a of Reese bass driven vocal D&B, this track was a lot of fun to produce, and I’m really pleased on how it turned out.
