Internationally acclaimed DJ/producer Morgan Page teams up with fellow US, five-time Grammy Award nominated singer Skylar Grey for what can be considered an exciting milestone in their respective careers. ‘Partly Cloudy’ sees Page rework Grey’s infamous song “Partly Cloudy With A Chance Of Tears” into a warm, melancholic piece of progressive house. Together with the emotionally driven vocals, the song is highlighted by swirling chords and punchy beats, shifting tempo from melodramatic moods to sweet, uplifting drops. What a fusion of two creative music forces, causing a burst of energy for any given dance floor – watch those reports, as it’s “Partly Cloudy” now on Spinnin’ Records.
Morgan Page is a seminal force in electronic music. Across his dozens of hit releases, the Grammy- nominated producer, DJ , and thought-leader has racked up hundreds of millions of plays, and charted multiple Billboard, Beatport, and US Dance Radio #1s. Meanwhile, he’s played just about every major festival out there, including a famed Las Vegas residency at Elia Beach Club.
Musically, he’s gained popularity with a broad production style, exploring sounds from deep, inventive house and progressive to catchy pop tunes. It’s resulted in an ever creative output since the early 10’s, from 2018’s “The Longest Road” and “Fire & Gold” to recent gems like “Fade Away,” “When I’m Right” and his incredible remix of Ava Max’ “Sweet But Psycho.”
In this latter remix guise, he’s now also jumped on another widely acclaimed singer-songwriter. Skylar Grey counts as pop notoriety, making waves since the early 10’s, having featured on dozens of hit tunes, including Dr. Dre’s “I Need A Doctor” and Macklemore’s “Glorious.” Her songwriting catalog includes the Grammy Award nominated “Love The Way You Lie” for Eminem and Rihanna, while she also dropped a smash in 2021 with Venom score “Last One Standing” (feat. Polo G, Mozzy & Eminem).
That same year, she also released the tender ballad “Partly Cloudy With A Chance Of Tears,” as featured on her widely praised self-titled album last year. Once this tune caught the attention of Morgan Page, he couldn’t resist to revamp this into a unique piece of club music.
“Partly Cloudy” opens with Skylar Grey’s sentimental vocals along with the original’s tender piano chords. Subtly, though, mesmerizing sound effects start to paint another picture, culminating in sweet pulsating synths, uprising beats and a mesmerizing melody, grabbing the attention towards a tantalizing drop.
It’s a wonderful piece of progressive house bliss, brought alive with vintage sounds as well as deep, contemporary beats. This is nicely emphasized in the breakdown, where Grey’s almost whispering calls are embedded in tasteful electronics, perfecting this blend of emotionally driven songwriting with productional craftsmanship.
Morgan Page and Skylar Grey obviously lift each other to new heights here, delivering a heart warming tune with wide dance floor appeal. “Partly Cloudy” makes for a superb retouch by two artists building a tasteful bridge between two musical worlds.
