Esteemed Dutch dance duo 71 Digits returns with a riveting blast from the past. Teaming up with one of Europe’s most successful DJ/producer teams Bodybangers and fellow German DJ/producer/songwriter Lotus, this resounding collab revives a certified 80’s classic, pitching up Erasure’s “Oh L’Amour” into a fresh, powerful stutter techno guise. “What Do You Want” sets off in raving style, creating an alternate universe designed with uptempo techno kicks, pulsating bass lines, vocal samples drenched in effects alongside fresh melodic hooks, courtesy of Lotus’ seductive vocals. Oh the love is here again, exactly in the shape the club floor wants it to be, out now on Spinnin’ Records.
Dutch DJ/production act 71 Digits represents a fresh, contemporary house sound, making impressive moves ever since producing mega hit “Somebody’s Watching Me” in 2020, alongside Chico Rose. Not long after, their remix of Hi_Tack’s “Say Say Say (Waiting 4 U)” (with Steff Da Campo) was released, reaching tens of millions of streams on Spotify – making the first steps of 71 Digits the more impressive.
More recently, the guys teamed up with Flo Rida on 2022 smash “Low”, and Timmy Trumpet & Prezioso on “Three Little Birds.” This year also saw them join forces with none other than house music legend Robin S on a brand new version of “Love For Love,” making the duo’s rise to fame definite. In the meantime, German dance act Bodybangers reached its own claim to fame, delivering more than 150 successful remixes and several single chart hits. The Cologne duo is known for its solid vibe of electro/house music ever since the late zeroes, recently highlighted by hit tunes like “Sweet Dreams,” “See You Again” and “Gangsta’s Paradise.” Their live shows bring similar energy, as they’ve been rocking many clubs and festival stages throughout the years.
Add to the mix the many talents of Lotus, a monumental DJ/producer/songwriter who’s been all over the place musically, from Marta Sanchez 90’s hit “Desesperada” to pop and dance hits featuring Pitbull, Snoop Dogg, Jason Derulo and Flo Rida. This resulted in several dancefloor hits, including the Pitbull featured records “She’s My Summer” and “Soul Mate,” the dancehall infused “Champagne On Me” featuring Flo Rida and the upwinding house tune “Wouldn’t It Be Good” featuring 80’s icon Nik Kershaw.
Now, this dream team comes together for an exciting re-imagination of a true 80’s gem. Always on the radar of music lovers, Erasure’s “Oh L’Amour” even featured in a car commercial earlier this year, drawing a whole new generation of listeners to the sultry synthpop song.
In the hands of 71 Digits x Bodybangers x Lotus, the tune transforms into something extraordinary. Employing the original’s chorus line, the vocals are drenched in pulsating effects in true stutter techno style, accompanied by a rough, punchy techno beat that leaves no doubt about its floor shaking intentions.
Adding a precious, feelgood momentum, Lotus takes the mood even higher, as she unfolds a series of euphoric, pop styled vocals, creating a perfect backdrop for the hefty, techno infused chorus. It all falls into place, thanks to the seasoned production of 71 Digits and Bodybangers, who perfectly feel when to unleash warm melodies, and when to burn rubber with a fierce, uptempo beat. “What Do You Want (Oh L’Amour)” [Stutter Techno] says it all, emphasizing the magic that can happen when vintage pop hooks collide with fresh, 21st century rave sounds. It’s a surprising and highly effective result, ready to overwhelm the crowds with its pitched up hooks and compelling vocals. “Oh L’Amour” has found its match in stutter techno, and the love is definitely mutual.
