Spotify, which is currently the biggest streaming service existent, is planning to introduce a brand new feature, called “Sponsored Songs”. They’ve been testing this one out lately and basically, it means that labels will get to pay to have their songs appear in some of the playlists that free-tier users follow, unlike the paid banners that currently appear. By doing this, labels are hoping that those that use Spotify will get to hear their tracks and maybe share it with their friends, thus increasing the tracks’ popularity.

Spotify has revealed that if this test is successful, they will be implementing the “Sponsored Songs” feature on the service’s free tier. Apparently, there will be an opt-out option, but it hasn’t been revealed if it’s going to be available for those that listen for free. If you want to find out more about this, make sure to stay tuned!
